Working in the Trenches....

A lot of times people, aka other jocks, will look at me like..."dude, you're in market 2 hundred whatever".
Well, here's the thing about market "two hundred whatever"...it's more work than you could ever imagine AND the sky's the limit with possibilities.
I may be a small market jock, but that doesn't mean I think of myself as a small market jock. I have more remotes than I can imagine, I get to go to all the best concerts AND I have a great show!
Sure large market stations pay big bucks for their remotes, but really...how many remotes do you hear from Large Market Jocks? Not near as many as small markets. See small markets know that if you want to win, you have to win in the streets AND in the halls!
We may have minimal promotional budgets and no we don't have a Custom Motorcoach with our logo plastered on it for that ONE festival appearance a year, but we do have relatability with our local content, we have compassion for radio and life in general and we may care about numbers...ratings...marketsize...payroll...but they don't define who we are.
The only downside to being a small market jock? It can be overwhelming. It can be downright exhausting. But at the end of the day when you are staring at a stage with one of your hottest artists and looking at the hordes of your listeners having the time of their life and it's all on a minimal budget...it all seems worth it.
No matter what size your market is...there will always be pro's and con's...the question is whether or not you are the Dedicated, Passionate Pro. Views: 2564
